Anomiidae go by several names, among them jingle shells, saddle oysters and Mermaid's Toenails. These are extremely thin, translucent paper-like shells. The shell itself follows the shape of the object it lays on, usually a rock or the large shell of another creature. While the meat inside is basically inedible, there are industrial uses such as the manufacture of glue, paint and shellac.

The Petite La Mer necklace is cast in bronze and plated with 24 karat gold over silver plate.
